In the years leading up to covid we experienced wave after wave of environmental activism and lobbying to improve the health of our world and promote strategies to limit the burden of unsustainable practices that are making it hard to heal itself or so they would have us believe. Concern was centering on the landfills chocking under the weight of non-absorbable plastics, again, so they say.
In the spirit of doing their part all supermarkets demanded a token payment of 5 cents for every plastic. Patrons were encouraged to bring their own toting bag to pack their groceries inside. The concept of doing our part to clean up our messes is a noble one in principal so hardly anyone protested and went home believing they were good earthlings willing to make sacrifices for our beloved mother earth.
Prior to covid, the landfills of the world hosted a yearly average of 13 billion plastic syringes used to administer seasonal flu vaccines. Since covid vaccines have rolled out the yearly burden of plastic syringes has doubled. Not to mention the disposed PPE suits and latex medical examination gloves and masks.
Now back to the 5 cent supermarket bag. Again we see the interest is making money and gaining more control not save the environment.
They know that the powerful mechanisms moving mountains and carving valleys and fierce oceans have no need for our help. Actually their remedial measures are compounding the problems.
